You don’t earn a name like Confiscated without a story. This sleek racer was rescued from the wreckage of Superstorm Sandy—found in a boatyard “graveyard”—and brought back to life. Since then, she’s been rewriting her own legacy: a Mayor’s Cup champion in 2025, past podium finisher in the MS Race, and a boat that once beat her previous owner in a dramatic head-to-head MS Race finish. She blends grit, determination, and the kind of crew that knows how to turn a puff of wind into a winning move.
Skipper/Owner - Laura Oncea
With 40 years of big boat sailing experience, Laura has a résumé that rivals the best in the sport. She fell in love with racing on the Maxi boats of the late 1980s, competing in legendary events like the Vineyard Race out of Stamford Yacht Club, the Onion Patch series, IMS championships, and the Maxi Worlds out of Newport, RI. She’s also a veteran of the American Yacht Club Fall Series—and yes, that was her sailing in the opening scene of Masquerade with Rob Lowe aboard the Maxi Obsession. This is Laura’s 6th MS Race, where she’s previously claimed both 1st and 3rd place finishes.

A highly accomplished mariner, Capt. Jaimie Bartlett is a USCG Master Captain holding both towing and sailing endorsements, with additional qualifications as a USCG Instructor and Instructor Trainer for US Sailing & US Powerboating. She has logged countless miles in competitive and instructional sailing, skippering and crewing a wide variety of vessels in both inshore and offshore events. Her expertise spans advanced navigation, vessel handling, safety protocols, and program development, making her a trusted authority in the sailing world.

When she’s not racing or coaching, Jaimie can be found hiking, snowboarding, or adventuring with friends—always chasing her next challenge, whether on the water or off.
Charlotte Richards
Charlotte’s sailing journey began in third grade when she won a free week of sailing camp for her winning “Why I Want to Learn How to Sail” essay. She’s been on the water every summer since, moving from Optis to 420s, with some Laser sailing in the mix. Now a rising senior at High Technology High School, Charlotte is a Level 1 certified instructor at Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club. She dreams of sailing in college, continuing to instruct, and gaining more big-boat racing experience—making Confiscated the perfect platform for her next chapter.
Lyra Seligman
A rising senior at Biotechnology High School, Lyra started sailing at five years old in the Puddle Duck program at Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club. Over 12 years, she’s raced across New Jersey in both Optis and 420s. Now a Level 1 sailing instructor at the same club where she learned, Lyra is eyeing a college with a strong sailing team, hoping to keep racing while pursuing her studies.

Hillary started sailing at age eight and has spent 25 years racing everything from Optis and 420s to 41-foot monohulls. Hillary has raced competitively on the local circuit as well as larger events around the northeast. A lifelong instructor, Hillary has taught children and adults of all ages. She’s helped build sailing programs like Trinity Hall’s High School sailing team, directed junior sailing at Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club, and remains a vocal advocate for women in sailing. When she’s not on the water, she enjoys reading, relaxing with her cats, and not so subtly fighting the patriarchy.
Kate Goushy
Program Director and Head Instructor at the Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program, Kate has been a lifelong sailor who crews on big boats and singlehands dinghies year-round—even in the winter. She oversees youth and adult sailing programs, coordinates regattas, mentors instructors, and fosters an environment where sailors develop skill, confidence, and passion for the sport.
