Fun Facts:
The crew has been racing together for many years, formerly on a 34’ Sabre named Kate.
Velocita (pronounced like velo-cheetah) was recently acquired by Marc De Souter, who changed her name to allude to the boats speed (Velocita in Italian means velocity, or “she - the fast one”).
Yvonne De Souter - the owner’s daughter, is also racing regularly on Velocita, and she is the helms(wo)man.
Liberty Yacht Club, the boat the club is affiliated with, prides itself with having a strong womanly leadership, and the Velocita crew has Liberty Yacht Club’s Commodore - Caroline Kornutik, Vice Commodore - Capt. Nitzan Levy, Secretary - Rachel Ryll and Membership Director - Amanda Kortbawi.
Team Velocita (formerly known as team Kate) is known for their exciting and surprising Ms. Race costumes that are corresponding with the annual theme of the regatta. This year - As Women Seas the Day, you can see each crew member holding a piece of equipment being used by them to do so. (I don’t want to disclose more about our costume… but it will be a fun surprise!).
Our international crew comprises of women from Germany, India, Israel, Ireland and of course - American.
